Neglect

What can I say? Summer is a busy time! We got back from an AMAZING trip to New Brunswick on the 18th, and then Jim & Helen, friends from England arrived for a 2-week visit. They fly back on Saturday (booo!) and then maybe (possibly but unlikely!) life will be quiet for a few weeks.

Since then we've been busy busy busy at the cottage and touring around. Last week was an absolute heat wave, and it was nice to get to the cottage on Thursday to bob around in the lake and drink beer and relax.

All is well here, and we're looking forward to little Evy's 1st birthday tomorrow! CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE it's been ONE YEAR? I definitely can't. Unfortunately, it's supposed to rain, so we may celebrate at Millbrook instead of at the cottage, but regardless, I promise to put up lots of photos afterwards.

In the meantime, here are a few pics from our last day in New Brunswick. Sorry they're in a smaller format:

I hope that EVERYONE has a wonderful Canada Day, despite the rain. Happy July!!

Fun fun fun!!

We have been having a great few days in New Brunswick. The weather has been great (after our first VERY rainy day, where we got to become well acquainted with the local foghorn!).

Lots of beaches, fun on the fundy trail, and playing at Granny & Poppa's cottage!

Miss E admires the view towards the Bay

Strolling to the local lighthouse

Some lovely wildflowers

Out for a stroll to check out the 'haunted house' that I want to buy and fix up!
(Ok, Rob?)

Teeny tot has her sink bath

A sunset walk on the beach down the road

And trying out the stroller on the St Martins beach

Lee, Charley and Sammy arrived this afternoon, and much cousinly hijinx and hilarity ensued! Evy and Sam are in luuurve (is that allowed with first cousins?). They keep on hugging each other and kissing - it's pretty funny. More pictures tomorrow!

Fun in New Brunswick

We made it to New Brunswick yesterday and were very excited to see Granny and Poppa at the Saint John airport.

Evy and I both slept well, despite (or because?) of the foghorn wailing every 20 seconds. Al & Jim's cottage is on the Bay of Fundy, and is beautiful! It's my first time here, so, it was really fun to get here and get a tour of the place I've only seen in pictures thus far.

It's pouring rain here today - not a great start weather-wise, but we've been having LOTS of fun playing inside.

We'll probably go into Saint John this afternoon and go to the museum... what else do you do on a rainy day?

My famous family

Woot woot! Look at these two lovebirds on the cover of the latest Kawartha Life magazine. They must be models, right? Because they look soooo wonderful! But NO! It's my dashing brother Ben and his beautiful wife Kristin!
What a great photo! Hard to believe it was over a year ago that they tied the knot. And SOOO exciting to think that these two supermodels are expecting a tiny babymodel in December! Yay!

Riding along in my automobile....

Do you think Evy is too young for her first car? Definitely NOT! She's quite liking her new set of wheels. It's almost as cute as mummy's Mini (but not quite).

Here she is, taking the wheel:

1st Redrox visit of the year!

We were very delighted to get up to Redrox on Saturday. It was a beautiful sunny and windy day, and it was nice to show Evy around. I don't imagine she really remembers being there last summer.

Evy at Redrox - 7 days old

Evy at Redrox - 11 months old
What a difference an (almost) year makes!

I like da' chives!

Mom, I'm not sure about this whole 'tent' thing

No, seriously. How do I get out of this thing?

In all, it was a busy visit. We were busy putting the windows on - Rob had them here over the winter to repair, repaint, and reglaze them. Also, we had to do the usual start-of-year sweeping up of dead bugs, etc. Evy helped by monitoring an ant infestation, and by doing her personal best to decimate the population by picking them up and attempting to eat them. Good times. Why do kids insist on putting EVERYTHING in their mouths?? I can only hope it's a good source of protein for her.

We're looking forward to getting up there again as soon as possible, and will be spending Evy's 1st birthday there with our friends Jim and Helen who will be visiting from England! Very excited! I wonder what Evy will think of the fireworks??

Good times on Mississauga Lake

A whole week has passed (again) without an update. I'm sorry. What can I say? The weather is good, we've been busy, and even made it to Granny's cottage on Wed/Thurs. Miss Evy had a pretty good time!! We both got a few blackfly bites, but it was definitely worth making the sacrifice (blood sacrifice?) to get up there! Here are some pics for your perusal:

Evy and Kismet ponder the railingless deck.
Not up to building code to be sure, but makes life
more exciting/heartstopping for mum.

Evelyn has discovered the joy of the 'goldfish cracker'.
She has so far eaten about 2,700 of them by my
count. Perhaps it's time to find a more nutritious
snack for her.

Granny walks by, unaware that this is what Evy
is thinking: "This place is gold. No childproofing in
sight. I think I'll try to spray some bug repellent right
in my eye. And eat shampoo. And dead bugs. Yum."

Showing off her standing skills

I'm pretty sure the madam will be walking any day now. Her latest trick is to stand, unsupported and bop up and down. Sometimes with toys in each hand - she's pretty fancy! I think all of my dance moves inspire her (the latest season of So You Think You Can Dance has started on TV and I'm pretty sure that if the cut-off age wasn't 30 years old, I'd probably be in the top 20 dancers. Just ask anyone - I've got some mooooooves! Is the 'pee-wee herman' considered contemporary or jazz??)
Hope you're all enjoying June!!
