Fun for fatty

We had a very fun and busy past few days. Sunday was my granny's 90th birthday party, and we all got to hang out in the countryside to celebrate. Here I am, looking roughly the size of a barn:

We've also had lots of fun time with the Higgy sisters, who were both in town for the weekend. This is a smiley gaggle of Higgy goils (and wee Sammy) on Saturday night:

Here's wee (or not so wee, as he's a whopping 18lbs!) Sammy, looking SO cute! I hope he likes his new lil' cousin when he/she arrives! I predict they'll be best buds as they'll only be 4 months apart!

And, in an effort to induce preterm labour by almost dying laughing, here are some Higgy sibs playing Rock Band at brother Ben and new sissy in law Kristin's house last night. (Note Sammy taking part by rockin' out on the floor while we jam, sister style!):
What a fun game! I'm sooo going to get one, once we have a TV that's bigger than 13". Though, there's no doubt that my musical abilities are sorely lacking... it was still good fun. Except when I got kicked off after only 30 seconds... I think I'm lacking a sense of rhythym, even though I was trying to channel the spirit of 'Animal' from the muppets:

2nd Last Day... Boooo!

Today is my 2nd last day of work. I'm sooooo in denial! I have been loving it so much, and it seems impossible that I'm all done as of tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that another job will open up here in about 12 months! That would be perfect! Until then, I'll have to just be nostalgic for the great group of people here and all the fun projects I've worked on (in what other job can you write a script for a polar bear documentary, write the content for a website about tree planting, and write about restricted fire zones and flood warnings and wolverines and black bears? It's all SOO exciting!).

Check out my website baby here: www.ontario.ca/plantatree
Pay special attention to the 'success stories'.... there might be one there from a certain Robert in Millbrook.... and pictures of a certain wonderful Granny - har har har!

And there's a prize for whoever finds the 'easter eggs' hidden on the tree planting map by our friend Greg who designed it. (If you don't know what an 'easter egg' is, you probably don't need to try to find them, har har).

35 Weeks!

Here's a little info for you about the bebe this week (taken from a weekly bebe email I get):

Your baby doesn't have much room to manoeuvre now that he's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (pick up a honeydew). Because it's so snug in your womb, he isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete — he'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.

At the last ultrasound (last Friday) the wee sproggy was weighing 5lb and 7oz, so is already kickin' butt on the fatty baby front! I do love a chubby baby!

More wedding fun

Rob and I went to another wedding this weekend - this time for my friend Tanya and her new hubby Jordan. It was another hot day here, but they were very lucky because there were supposed to be thunderstorms, and the day ended up being beautiful and sunny.

This time, I lasted in my highheels for approximately 30 minutes before the birkenstocks came out. From what I hear, birks are THE fashionable wedding footwear for fatty pregnant ladies with swollen ankles.

Tanya looked beautiful, and I think everyone there had a great time! Here are some pics for your entertainment!

Baby likes wedding music - kicky!!

A comparison: A 25" waist and a 40" waist. Guess which is which.

Hangin' with my homies

I had a lovely day on Sunday, hanging with the girls in Toronto.
Even though they know about my phobia related to all things shower-related, especially opening presents in front of people, they still insisted on hosting a non-shower. (Which, basically, was a real baby shower except in name).

It was a HOT day in the big city, but Emer's backyard was a lovely venue, and it was SO nice to get in a visit with the ladies. And, of course, they are a generous and thoughful bunch, so baby HigginJax now has a bunch of loot (and a place to sleep - love the bassinette!). Thanks girls!!

Wow!

Wow! The lads had a busy day yesterday. The chicken coop is now actually looking like a real building! Very exciting! It was SO hot yesterday, yet the wee army of men was hard at work from 11am until 8pm - they just didn't stop!

I think Rob is VERY pleased! Unfortunately, I don't think there's going to be much progress today because the forecast is calling for thunderstorms (hoping the basement doesn't get flooded again!).

Am off to Toronto this morning for a day of visiting with friends. Hope the rain isn't too bad for my drive! At least the car has great A/C, because it's going to be another crazy-hot day here!

Bleh bleh bleh

Soooo, summer is here with a venegance. I don't know how my 'fatty' self will cope with the heat this weekend! It's still before 12 and is already 30, but feels like 39 with the humidity. Doh! I think I'll be installing our window air conditioner tonight, so that I can get some sleep!

Who knew that pregnant women have a 50% increase in the volume of their blood!? (Eww, right?). So I think that creates a certain amount of heat already! And then when it's hot and horrible outside, it's even worse!

In other news, the basement is drying out (hopefully!). Rob stayed up until 4am to keep an eye on things. It took a few hours after the rain stopped for our indoor river to stop too. What a pain in the arse! I really should have taken a picture of us last night - Rob was literally steaming because he was soaking wet from being outside and working hard carrying buckets of water upstairs to dump, so he was looking 'good'! And then I was wearing a pair of underpants, a tank top, and my rubber boots (accessorized by giant belly!) We looked like total hillbillies!

Is supposed to rain a lot this weekend, but hopefully the basement won't flood again. Fingers crossed!

Zut

1:04 am. Basement flooded. Torrential rain.... thunderstorms for the past hour & a half.

We are giving overheating wet/dry shop vac motor a rest before going back downstairs to remove yet another few gallons of water from the basement.

Good timezzzz! Gotta love a house from the 1880's.... they weren't big on weatherproofing back then....

And the 'Severe Weather Warning' says there's a chance of tornados.

Maybe I should just go back to bed?? Or maybe I should be excited.... baby's first natural disaster!!

The latest

I just know you're all dying for the latest belly shot, so here ya' go! I think the horizontal stripe is very 'slimming', don't you?

Am glad tomorrow is Friday - I've been weary this week. And am trying to prepare myself for the weather this weekend. Is supposed to be MISERABLE and HOT and HUMID! I'm sure my ankles will be the size of tree trunks. Which, really, is a distinctive and original look, I guess.

SO much fun!

Had a lovely, exhausting, fun, fabulous weekend celebrating baby brother Ben's WEDDING!
It was a perfect day, and despite a horrible weather forecast, the day ended up being beautiful! They even had gorgeous sunshine!

Kristin looked beautiful, and Ben looked so handsome! The day was perfect, and now I have a wonderful sister-in-law!! (Though, really, she's been an unofficial sister-in-law for about a decade!)
Too sleepy tonight to write more, but it was a perfect, spectacular, memorable day!
