More from Auntie Em

Continuing on with my last post, Emily was here this weekend and took the cutest (CUTEST!) pictures of young Evelyn. Here you go: Enjoy! Thanks Emily! I hope I don't have to start paying you!

We had a very nice weekend and another great day today - it was 26 degrees! Summer! Crazy! Madam Evy was looking pretty darn cute in her little shirt and tiny shorts today... of course, I didn't take pictures - I forgot. I blame it on heatstroke after having my strollercize class this morning and running up hills in the sweltering temperatures! Bleh! I think we're back to 'spring' tomorrow, so, that should be nice.

Lookit this girl

This picture was taken last month by auntie Emily. It's one of my favourite pictures of Evelyn - I could stare at it for hours.

Thanks, Em, for taking yet another amazing photo. Evy is lucky to have her childhood documented by such a great photographer!

For Lee

For some reason, when Lee sees pictures of Evy wearing Charley and Sammy's hand-me-downs, it makes her all teary-eyed and nostalgic (even though Sam is only 4-months older than Evy!).

So, just for her, here is Miss Evy wearing a hand-me-down shirt. I'm pretty sure Lee can find a picture of Sam wearing this not too long ago, and it'll be fun to compare. It's WAY too big for Evy, but we're low on long-sleeved shirts, so, she's going with a 'baggy' look for now.

Here she is, looking pretty cute, with her new favourite toy - a toothbrush. Every time she sees me brushing me teeth, she's hypnofreakintized, so, I got her one. She luuuurves it. Man, kids are weird.

"I shall point to this knot on the floor that I'm trying to pick up"

"Wheeee, I love to brush my teefs!"

"Freeze!"

"Oh, mummy, stop taking pictures!"

"That's it, I'm outta here"

Standing tall

Madam Evy has decided that her favourite thing to do is stand. In fact, she refuses to bend at the waist if you try to get her to sit - it's kind of like trying to fold a piece of wood in half!

She's still not really trying to crawl, but, she DID try to walk yesterday. She was standing at her little play table (lent to us by Lise and Jarvis!) and suddenly decided that she'd like to get a toy that was on the floor a few feet away. So, before I could react, she started to take a step towards the toy. Of course, she fell immediately, but it was amazing to see her try to take her first steps! (One small step for a baby, one giant headache for mum who will soon be chasing her all over the place).

Here she is, playing with her lil' table. Doesn't she look SUPER proud of herself in the 2nd picture?:

That's all the news for now - we've been having a quiet week so far.
Happy Earth Day!

Fun times

We had a lovely weekend - spent most of yesterday outside in the sun watching daddy and friends put the floor down in the chicken coop (aka Rob's office). It looks BEAUTIFUL - they did an amazing job. So, hopefully Rob will be working out there pretty soon. He's been trying to get the last few things done for months, but alas, me and miss Evy are pretty demanding on his time. I know he's sooo happy to have the end in sight!

It's freeeezing cold again today (had some lovely hail/rain late this afternoon) but it was sunny on Saturday and Sunday. Here is miss Evy playing outside yesterday:

On Saturday night we had a fabulous visit with the girls and their girls at Lise's house in Ajax. It was soooo much fun to get caught up with the ladies, and even though we stayed up WAY too late (I'm still not sure how I managed to keep my eyes open until 2am) the laughs were totally worth it. I'm still laughing thinking about some of the topics of conversation!
Here's some photos from the fun in Ajax:

Bernie can't put down her book!
It must have been a real page-turner!
We're hoping to have a quiet week here. It looks like Evy is cutting 3 top teeth all at the same time, so her mood hasn't been great. She's still sleeping well though (a few lapses, but much improved on the whole) and we're keeping our fingers crossed that will continue. Ta ta for now!

creepy crawly

Of course I had to do a seperate post about little E's first crawling adventure. We spread our blankie out on the warm sand, and it was all she needed to get moving. Here's the first attempt:

And the first fall (I love the shadows of her hands and foot):
And them more practice after bathtime:

Trying to crawl using her feet instead of knees:
She's still busy practicing and hasn't quite got the hang of it yet. This morning, for example, she was pushing herself around the living room backwards instead of forwards. But hey, whatever works, right? We're very proud of our little mover and shaker!!

FLA wrap-up

We got back from our Floridian adventure on Sunday night. The flight back was great - miss Evy slept for well over an hour. Once we landed, things didn't go quite so smoothly. The train between terminals 1 and 3 was broken, so we had to take a bus (along with the stroller, car seat, and 6 bags!). Then, Rob couldn't quite remember where he'd parked the car, but we did find it easily in the end. THEN, the normally efficient and organized Mr Jackson couldn't find the ticket to get out of the parking garage. (It was sneakily hiding in the car ashtray). Anyhoo, all that palaver took about 3 hours, so we were weary when we finally got home.

I've gotta say, we were feeling pretty smug to see patches of snow still on the ground when we landed! The weather the last 5 days or so in Florida was absolutely beautiful. (We'd had a bit of rain before that). We're really glad that we missed the last blizzard of the season, and are looking forward to Spring and some warm weather here.

We had a great trip, and loved having our friends Tanya and Jordan there too. They were a great help with Evy, and were pure entertainment and comedians for the whole week. There were lots and lots of laughs.

Miss E was pretty good too. She's still waking up 2 or 3 times a night, which is hard, but, she was in great spirits during the day, and was even in a good mood when her top tooth was coming in. And, she decided to amaze us all by crawling for the first time! (She waited until we were on the beach to dazzle us! She's gotta do everything with style, of course!)

Here are a few pics of the adventure:

We had many visits from wildlife yesterday. Lots and lots of birds, a few lizards, one bird that ate a lizard, and a pod of dolpins. I didn't really believe the dolphins would come in to the intracoastal waters, but we've seen them twice now and it's been amazing! Yesterday one was right at our dock and jumped fully out of the water. It was sooooo cool!

Of course, we didn't manage to get the camera in time for that sighting, but here is our heron, who we've named Gregory Peck. He was eating the fruit that fell off a tree in our backyard, and we were a bit scared he was going to come right inside - he was pretty bold!

Check out our beautiful backyard view too!

Rob had to go yesterday to buy a new camera. Sigh. Why on EARTH would our stupid camera wait until we were on vacation to break? Oh well. It's just added considerably to the cost of the trip, but at least now we'll get some pictures of miss Evy on the beach. (The pics above were taken on Tanya and Jordan's camera). Will post some more as soon as we get them.
It's chillier here today - about 20 - but it's a nice break from the humidity we've been having. On the agenda for today? A trip to Target and mini golf! Yay!

More fun in FLA

We're still having a grand time here in FLA. We're looking forward to watching a satellite launch tonight from the comfort of our balcony too - should be coooool!

Here are a few pics from yesterday. Our camera stopped working for half the day, so we were in panic mode. We got it working again, but missed taking some beach shots. These will have to do!

Chillin' in Cocoa

Evy and I got to Florida yesterday and joined Rob, who was already here for a work conference. It was sooooo nice to get here, especially after having to chisel the frost off of the car windshield yesterday morning before heading to the airport.

We're having a great time so far. Yesterday we stayed at a hotel outside of Orlando, and today we hit to road and drove east to Cocoa Beach. We've rented a condo here until Saturday, and we're right on the beach.

Here are some photos for your enjoyment:

check in from Florida

We just had the worst night ever with Evy.

I guess it was a mistake to think that we could share a hotel room with Evy. She was up 21 times between 7pm and 5am. She just kept crying and crying. It was awful. Finally at 5am I put her in the bathtub wrapped in a blanket. We couldn't hear her crying as much in there, but then the people in the next room complained. So then we put her in the bar fridge. It was a tight fit, but we really couldn't hear her in there. It was either that or the room safe, we couldn't decide which was better.

Happy April, Fools!
