Splash!

Ahh, summer fun!

We spent a lovely afternoon in PoHo with Lee and the boys.  Pizza, a visit with Great Granny B and watched some of the Olympic closing ceremonies (I REALLY want one of those lightbulb hats!).  Good times.

It's always fun to visit, especially for Henry, because Auntie Peepee does super fun things like contorting herself into a pretzel to take her wee nephew down the playhouse slide. This is after noticing that he climbed up the ladder on his own while the grownups had their backs turned for 12 seconds!

Correcting that scoliosis will only require 47 treatments, Auntie Peepee

But, today's visit was EXTRA fun because Lee & Chris's neighbours have an AMAZING pool and have, even more amazingly, given permission for the unruly folk next door to use it while they are away.

The kids took to the water like, um, fish taking to water, and a jolly splashy time was had by all.

Synchronized splooshing

Little water babies!

Henry wanted to jump too, just like the big kids!

The little sea nymph

The kids are (fingers crossed) on the mend after a full week of sickness.  Evy still had a wee fever this morning but them seemed grand for the rest of the day.  Hopefully that's the end of this mystery virus that knocked us out for a week.  Surely a litre of chlorinated pool water up the nose is a cure for almost anything?

It's not even mid-August and I'm already mourning the end of summer.  We've just been SO busy and have crammed so much fun into the past 6 weeks, I have to say I don't really want it to end.  Or maybe I'm just dreading the ridiculous sobby mess that I'll be next month when we walk Madame E to school for the first time?  Sniff.

In the meantime, we will continue to cram as much splashing, hilarity, and fun as we can into what remains of summer.

Belated Big-girl Birthday!

In what has become a delightful tradition, we had a great birthday bash for Miss Evelyn up at the cottage. What a lucky kid, to be born on a holiday! Lots of friends and family joined us for swimming, bbq, and sunshine. The big 4 year old girl had a great time.

Such a cutie!

How did Auntie Peeps know just what colour cupcakes to make?

Three stooges at lunch

Who, me?  FOUR?!!

Sir Sammy testing the breeze with a spinny pinwheel!!

Best seats on the lake for the Canada Day Fireworks

Every year the fireworks seem better and better!

And, the most beloved birthday guest of all... Kizzy!
I suppose a time will come when Evy won't want to be at the cottage anymore for her birthday!  Shortly followed by a time when she WILL want to be there, as long as she's up there with her 20 closest friends and a keg of beer and her parents are 40 miles away!  So, we shall enjoy these years while they are here.

I see such a change in her in the past year.  She is definitely not a toddler and her baby face is turning into that of a sweet beautiful little girl.  She's saucy and bossy and so so so funny.  Lately she's been saying, "Oh mah gawd" about stuff, which just cracks me up.  I guess she gets the valleygirl-speak from me?  Though I swear I don't sound like that!

So a happy (belated) birthday to my beautiful big girl!  You delight, infuriate, and amaze us and fill our house with love and laughter.  Thank you.

Run for fun

These two.

I'm pretty sure they could have fun just about anywhere.

This marathon running effort (they must have run back and forth down the sidewalk 55 times) started with a simple walk out to the car as we were leaving Port Hope one night a couple of weeks ago.

So. much. fun.

Oooh, chase me, Evy, chase me!

Nothing like a little pre-bed pyjama exercise!

Sam smiling + running multi-tasking

C'mon Evy, you'll catch him (someday!)

And, the finish line!

We've had a rough couple of weeks here, with a never-ending stomach bug for both kids last week (H barfed 6 days in a row.  So gross.).  This week's medical delight was the little man developing periorbital cellulitis at the site of a bug bite he got on the long weekend.  Basically, a very ouchy infection under the skin.  It was around his eye and we had to go to the doctor's 2x for them to monitor it because it can be quite bad for the wee babas.  Anyway, 4 doses of antibiotics a day for 10 days plus a topical cream should do the trick.  Poor little dude.  He is certainly keeping me on my toes.  Here's hoping that's all for ill-health for a couple of weeks (or the whole summer!?!).

Non-stop rain here today but so far the basement is dry (phew).  Makes for a grey day, but hey, it's a perfect opportunity to update the blog!

Happy June to all (and happy 14th-month b-day to Sir Hen!).  Have a great weekend!

Rollin'

What says Springtime like a little hill rollin?  (Also captured here by Lee).

Oh, to be young and bendy!  Evy thought this was the most fun ever, and Henry, Sam and Charley had to agree.  Pure entertainment for the adults too.  Can't wait to spend lots more time at the Peterborough Zoo this summer!

Reminiscing

Ah, Florida. Seems like it was 37 years ago we were there.

Zooooo, Part Twoooo

I'm sure you've already been over to Lee's blog where she posted some excellent pictures of our fun at the zoo yesterday, but I wanted to add a few from my camera.

A good time was had by all. An overcast day + school back in session = almost empty zoo for us to roam in! It was my first time witnessing the otter feeding, which was very entertaining. And, it was Lee's first time wrangling three kids in the bathroom at the same time. Not enough hand sanitizer in the world, people.

(of the super-slide, that is!)

In other news, we've had a (mild and possibly non-existent) case of chicken pox here. Cousin Sam is inflicted and after Ev had a fever of 102 last week and then some mystery red dots (but less than 10) we figured better safe than sorry. So, no daycare for her this week (she usually goes 3x a week). It's been surpisingly ok having her home, though pretty sure that's all to do with being down in Port Hope for 7 hours on Tuesday and then at the zoo all morning yesterday!. Misery loves company, or something along those lines!

Happy back to schook week for all of you school-bound friends! And, if you're in the Millbrook region this weekend, don't miss the Zuchinni Festival on Sunday. It's seriously the most fun you'll ever have with a Zuchinni!

Yet another post about these two chimps

There have been countless posts about Evy and Sam and their sweet sweet love for each other. But, here's your update that lets you know that their love is still strong and alive, and indeed growing. They are SO funny together. Looking at the pics, I still have trouble believing that they are the same age, nevermind the same species!

Here they are at Granny & Poppa's fancy new house:

A look of amusement and adoration (?)

More funny faces

And the whole crowd with Granny, featuring Henry's legs

I have to say, that Charley was in all the above pictures, but I cropped him out of a few because all he did the whole time was stare at the chestnut he was holding in every photo! That said, he does quite love Evy too, and seems to love Henry even more. He asked yesterday if Henry could live with them. I was all for that plan (due to a delirious lack of sleep) but Lee wasn't going for it. Darn.

I can't believe we're in late May! Summer is going to be over if I blink (because if I blink, I'll surely fall asleep and will wake up in the Fall when the leaves are falling from the trees!). Hope everyone had a great long weekend!
