Christmas in August

Miss Evy and I went for a stroll last night to check out the snowstorm in downtown Millbrook. They are filming a cheesy-barfy wonderful made-for-tv movie here and turned downtown Millbrook into a winter wonderland for the day (on one of the hottest days of the year. Tres realistic).

Evy quite liked the snow and wanted to get out and play with it, but I figured she'd get discovered as a star and didn't want to have to move to Hollywood, so, I made her stay in the stroller.

Never a dull moment in this thriving metropolis!

Last Saturday

... We were hanging on out the beach (under some ominous skies) in lovely Cape Breton. Miss E doesn't let bad weather or clouds stop her from having a good time! What a beach babe.

A whale of a time!

We had a weekend of many adventures in Cape Breton Island, which I'll tell you all about later, but I wanted to share this video with you first. We went Whale watching on Sunday and Evy was OVERJOYED. Click this link to see the video.

Keeping busy while daddy's away

Not much going on here, just passing the time while Rob's out in New Brunswick, whipping the in-laws in to shape. (By this I mean that he's helping them with their list of construction handy-man projects, not that he's actually whipping them, though at times I suspect he's tempted. Just kidding Granny & Poppa. Ha.)

Miss E and I are having some nice mommy/daugther time, complete with trips to the library, brunch out at the local restaurant on Sunday, walks, and of course wrangling zucchinis and sliding down slides.

Going to the zoo, zoo, zoo!

Big plane, small girl

We, along with 92,003 of Peterborough's finest, decided to visit the Zoo on holiday Monday. Actually, considering the temperature and the long-weekendness, it wasn't too crowded. Miss E got to enjoy the Splash Pad (though she was pretty scared of the crazy-spraying water) and of course the playground. We also said hi to the camel and the otters.

But, the highlight (when you're 2) is the miniature train. I told Evy in the morning that we were going to go for a train ride, and she spent every moment until we got there asking for 'choo choo train ride'. Pretty enthusiastic, if not slightly irritating!

Gamma Gamma (the title she has bestowed upon Rob's parents) met us there and got to witness the glee:

Having so much fun on the train with Grandpa

Big smiles with Gamma Gamma

I'm looking forward to going back (maybe when her crazy cousins are in town in a few weeks) so that Miss E can tackle her fear of the splash pad. And if anyone will be more enthusiastic about the train than Evy, it's going to be Mr. Charley. (See you in a few weeks, boys!)

Luuurve

Evy and I had the great pleasure of spending some time up at Great Granny Barb's cottage on Mississauga Lake this past weekend. It's kind of kid paradise, what with the treacherous cliffs, 1950's vintage toys, deck with no railing, and of course, the piece de resistance, the beach!

Little madam quite enjoyed the swimming portion of the trip, despite a pesky summer cold. Here she is, having some love-time with Gr.Gr. B:

Those two quite enjoy each other's company. Evy also quite enjoyed the peach crisp and icecream that Granny made for her. (Food = love when you're 2 - or 34, I guess!).

How funny to realize we were there the exact same weekend last year, when Evy did her utmost to drown the old girl. (And what a change in Miss E over the past year too!).
