little pink poodle

We are gearing up for Halloween here (or, at least, I washed the secondhand costume I bought Evy and thought she should try it on). Here she is.... I think she makes a pretty cute little pink poodle, don't you?

Hard to believe it's almost October, isn't it? All is well here - we've all had a nasty cold and are on the road to recovery (don't you have the first cold of the season? It's been a doozy and miss E has still got a seriously snotty snout).

The leaves are changing colour and Millbrook is looking beautiful, as always. And, we can't wait for Thanksgiving! I saw granny's food list for our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, and I'll just say that it included a variety of types of pie, plus apple crisp. Yum! (Sorry, Lee. You can't participate in the pie-eating challenge this year - I'll take on the mantle on your behalf!).

Am off to go convince myself that strollercize is a good idea today - considering it's still only 6 degrees (and 15 degrees in our house - really gotta get this furnace thing organized, or Evy's going to have to wear her Halloween costume every day and to bed!). Brrr! The up-side is that I've been doing lots of baking to keep warm! Today? I'm making lasagna and pumpkin cookies. Yum!

Fun at great granny's

On Wednesday we stopped by Great Granny Barbara's house for lunch and to have a visit. Evy had a lovely time, and was being a silly little madam and showing off for us. Gr.Gran also introduced Evy to the concept of drinking soup out of a cup, which is the only thing that she wants to eat now. Messy!

Here are the 14.5 month-old and the 91 year-old having some fun:

One of the first things Evy did was to try to smash Gr. Granny's teapot, so we compromised by giving her the tea cosy to play with, which she immediatly put on her head. I think it suits her:

After lunch, we went to the Peterborough Zoo which was VERY fun (so much fun, in fact, that I didn't manage to take any pictures, so you'll have to take my word for it!). I think Evy is VERY lucky to have such a great Great Granny!

The Adventures of ole' scabby head

Apparently all wee kiddies end up bumping their heads and other parts of their anatomy when they are still wobbly on the legs. Poor miss Evy fell down last Monday and gave herself a nasty bump on the noggin, along with a nice helping of road rash.

Believe me, I was more upset than she was, and felt that for sure this time, my chances at being nominated 'mother of the year' were finished for good. Here she is just after the tumble:

She didn't seem affected (and didn't seem concussed, even though her head made a noise not unlike a melon would when hitting the sidewalk) so we proceeded over the neighbours' house to play with ye olde water snake:

Then, on Friday night (with gross giant grody icky scab formed) we had a nice visit with Auntie Kristin and Uncle Ben, who love Evy even when she's disfigured! (And check out Evy's little cousin, cooking away in the oven there!):

On Sunday, we had the great pleasure of attending the 2nd annual 'Millbrook Zuchinni Fest' (don't ask, but it's great fun!). There Evy got to hang and (and do some awesome dancing) with her friends Maia and Maeve:

And though the scab looks scary and debillitating, it didn't stop little miss from rolling on the floor:

And running like a crazy scamp with her tongue out. (I actually didn't mean to crop the scab outta this picture - she was just running too fast for me!):

And then lo and behold, madam woke up on Monday morning and at first I didn't notice what was different about her - and then I thought, "where the hell is ole' scabby!?". Not to worry, she didn't eat it or anything, Rob found it in her crib:

And so with this post, I am officially one of those pathetic obnoxious people who writes about the most boring, ridiculous, inane and umm.... gross... things about their kids! Sorry if anyone is eating lunch while reading this.

In other news, Rob has been working in Detroit for a few days each week lately, and that makes it kinda rough for me. But, we're surviving so far, and really, it makes it kinda rough for Rob too. Because he's in Detroit. Shudder.

Oh, and Evy went to the pediatrician last Thursday and is now weighing in at a whopping 16lb10oz. This puts her in the same range as a medium sized potato, or as slightly smaller than the average angler's trophy and slightly larger than a loaf of bread. Yep, she's still pretty darn tiny. But, the good news is that all of her tests came back fine n' dandy, so she just is what she is - a petite little sweetie.

I hope everyone is having a grand September so far!

5 years!

Thanks, Rob, for 5 amazing years filled with travel, adventures, laughter, love and fun.
And thanks to everyone who was with us 5 years ago today - you helped to make it one of the very best days of my whole life - it seems like it was just yesterday!
Happy Anniversary!

Goofy

I have been trying to find a picture of Evy with her gappy teeth showing ever since I saw this picture of Sam on Lee's blog:

I didn't have any and failed in my attempts to get a pic (she was strangely close-mouthed when I was trying!). But then, my friend Theresa (who takes amazing pictures) posted this one on facebook:

So, you can see why I wanted to share these two pictures!
The cousins, who don't have much in common in size or personality (except for the screechy factor) will, alas, both need some orthodontic intervention at some point. Maybe we can get a 2 for 1 special? Oh, but I guess they don't do braces for baby teeth! Ha ha! So, hopefully their adult teeth will be a little less madonna/david letterman/alfred e. neuman.
Happy Labour Day weekend, everybody!

14 months!

Welcome to September and fall and the realization that winter is just around the corner. (How depressing is that?) The days are getting shorter and it's been positively chilly the past few mornings.
I was sitting with Evy yesterday (on her 14-month birthday!) and was thinking about how much fun she'll have this winter. And that even though she's still such a tiny little mite, she's come a long way in 14 months. And here's the proof:

July 2008 - leaving the hospital
Doesn't she look like a doll?

August 2008
A little bigger! Chubby cheeks are growing!

September 2008
Cheeks reaching giant proportions and threaten engulf tiny chin

October 2008
White pants after Labour Day? Seriously?

So sad that fashion crime can strike at any age.

November 2008
The 'crazy-giant' eyelashes are starting to show up

December 2008

Remember the lizard tongue days?

January 2009
Elf is looking a bit more comfy in the bumbo chair

February 2009
Big girl sitting on the couch

March 2008
Little monkey and the forehead vesuvius - ouch!

April 2009
Lookit me sitting like a big girl (and trying to brush my wee teeth!)

May 2009
Little miss starts to crawl in earnest

June 2009
Having fun at the cottage with shreddies

July 2009
Eyelashes? check. Chubby cheeks? check.

August 2009

Definitely a bigger girl, but still small enough to fit in the sink!

September 2009
Celebrating her 14-month birthday with yogurt
Wait... and is that some hair FINALLY growing on her head?

I can't wait to see what the next 14 months will bring! Lots more adventures, I'm sure.
