Friday update

Rob is back tomorrow! Yay!

We've had a lonely few days without him. Yesterday, the neighbours took pity on me (I think they could tell I hadn't had an adult conversation in days) and they invited me and Evy in for a visit. Of course, the little madam has been crabby again, and she was not very polite. Poor Carol tried to hold her, and had the pleasure of holding a screaming squirming baby for a few minutes.

Here are some cute shots of little miss potato head from yesterday:

And miracle of miracles, she actually fell asleep in the wee swing for a while yesterday. It wasn't for long, and we have yet to successfully repeat this feat, but it gave me hope that in the near future, she won't need to be clutched to my bosom (literally) to fall asleep! (Too bad about the neck position... I'm sure babies are very bendy and she won't have any long term damage!).

And, in the spirit of not having every post be a whiny one, here are a few things I'm happy about today:
1. I caught the recycling men before they went past this morning and got rid of 2 weeks worth of recycling that was overflowing!
2. My hubby is home tomorrow to give both of his girls some love and hugs
3. The weather has been beautiful
4. My parents are at their new summer house on the Bay of Fundy in N.B. and though I'm missing them, they are having an amazing time. I can't wait to go in the Spring.
5. I'm loving our house in the fall. This is our first autumn in ye olde Millbrook, and it's been great so far. The leaves are starting to change, and the view from our front porch is pretty amazing. We've been spending lots of time out in the rocking chair.

Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend.

Miss Kitty

Here is the wee miss in her new kitty shirt from my friend Lise. It's pretty cute! I like that the kitty's eyes are as big as Evy's! The look on her face says she isn't too sure about the kitty, but I know that in her heart she loves the shirt.

All is well here (or as well as it gets!) even though Rob is in Denver for work and the little miss has a cold. Mega snot-flowage from the nose, and I think she had a fever earlier today. I'm keeping a close eye on her to make sure she's ok. It sure has been a germy few weeks, considering I'm still not over the cold I've had for almost a month... bummer.

Miss Evy and I are going to take it easy for the rest of the week and try to get all better before Rob comes home on Saturday. Ciao for now!

Sunny September

Hello from sunny and lovely Millbrook. This has gotta be my favourite time of year. I love waking up to frosty mornings, and cooler days (with lots of sun and fall colours of course). I don't love waking up to a crabby baby, but, really since she's only waking up to eat, I guess I can't hold it against her.

Speaking of fall colours, here is a tree from our backyard. Clearly, one branch of this tree has decided that it's fall, while the rest of the tree is bravely resisting the urge and is trying to cling to its summer greenness. Mighty purdy.

And speaking of purdy, here is wonderful (90 year old) granny Barbara. Evy and I went there for lunch today, and I might start going every day. The menu included raisin scones (baked this morning) and possibly some of the best peach pie I've ever had in my life (baked this morning). It's pretty sad when your aged granny puts you to shame in the kitchen, makes you a fabulous lunch, does the dishes, and then sends you home with pie, peaches, cookies, and dinner! I hope I have her genes!

While spending the day with Granny, we headed over to her church in Peterborough where the quilting ladies meet every Tuesday. Granny used to quilt with them but her eyesight is failing a bit, so she doesn't go as much. Anyhoo, Granny wanted to buy a special hand-quilted baby blanket for Evy, so we went to pick out which one she'd like best. I chose a beautiful one, which must have dozens of hours of work spent on it. Evy tried it out when we got back to Granny's house. I think she likes it!

Otherwise, things have been busy here. Evy and I went to Toronto last week and had a great visit with Emer and Bernadette and the girls. Evy went on the Subway, and hung out on the Danforth. It was fun to introduce her to the urban lifestyle (coffees on the patio, shopping at Bay & Bloor) and it was great to hang out with my T.O. chums and to feel like a real adult human being again, after living on planet baby for the past 2.5 months. Was having too much fun to take pictures... sorry!

So, that's the report from here. Not much else going on. We survived Rob being gone last week, and now he's off again - heading to Denver tomorrow for work. So, Evy and I are on our own again, but I'm sure we'll survive. If not, I'm heading back in to Granny's house - she'll take care of us!! (Though I might gain 100lbs!). Ta ta for now!

We're survivin'

We survived night one of life without Rob. It was fairly uneventful, aside from the usual waking every 3-hours for the little misses' fuel-up sessions.

As promised yesterday, here are some pics of Evy for your (and her daddy's) enjoyment:

puke in my belly button

Today has been a day where the highs were high, and the lows included baby vomit in my bellybutton. Ahhh! Maybe THIS is why some people choose not to have kids! (I had just finished feeding her, which is why my belly button was exposed... NO, I wasn't wearing a cropped T-shirt... fear not, fashion police.)

That said, it's a BEAUTIFUL day, fall is in the air, and the little madam is asleep on her own in the other room. That's the first time that's happened in about 2 weeks, so I'm over the moon. Maybe I should take this opportunity to go and wash my belly... and the couch cushion, which may never be the same again.

Will post pics later, by request of Rob, who is away for work and will surely be missing Evy.

4 years!!

It's been four amazing years since this wonderful day. Hard to believe!! It has flown by and our lives have changed so much since then. Happy Anniversary, wonderful husband! I hope you love me as much now as you did then, even though I'm regularly covered in baby poop and puke now!

Speaking of baby poop and puke, here is Miss Evy this morning - she was actually smiling! I think she was trying to wish us a happy anniversary!

Bjorn again

So, we're still in the midst of 'ColicFest 2008'. And, I'm still deep in the midst of this cold. Helllo! I thought colds were only supposed to last 10 days. It's been 10 days already and it shows NO sign of abating! VERY frustrating because I'll work for an hour to get Evy to sleep, and then I'll sneeze/cough and she'll wake up again. Brutal! (Harried mom tip of the day: diaper rash ointment works a charm on yer' nose when it's sore from kleenex burn).

My only saving grace has been the baby bjorn. (For those not in the know, the baby bjorn is a baby carrier where the baby rests against your chest). Yesterday, I wore the bjorn (with Evy in it, obviousleeeee) for about 5 hours. And I have it on again now. She sleeps so fitfully, that if we leave her on her own, she'll wake up in 5 or 10 minutes. For some reason, she sleeps well when she's pressed against me, and it allows me to walk around, do laundry, and have a bit of a life. Of course, I'm probably warping her more because now she seems to ONLY sleep when she's in the bjorn. Oh well, I'm too weary from this cold to break any bad habits right now. I'll wait until I have a bit more strength before trying to get her back into the habit of sleeping on her own.

Anyhoo, sorry for the totally WHINY post! I promise that I'm still (mainly) in high spirits - but that's probably sleep-deprived delirium. Lee & the boys arrived from Ottawa yesterday, and it was great to see them, so I'll post some fun pics of Evy & her cousins this week.

In the meantime, here are some hilarious pics of Rob and Rob junior. (We've decided that Evy looks exactly like a mini Rob). Thanks to Jessica for the fabulous hedgehog shirt that Evy is wearing --- so cute!!

2 months old!

Sorry I've been a bad blogger. I've been stricken with a cold of ebola-like proportions and have been sick as a dog since Sunday. I've had good intentions of posting lots of fun pictures, etc, especially in honour of the wee miss turning 2 months old on Monday, but alas, have been too busy feeling awful.

I'm very grateful that so far Evy doesn't have the cold too, because I must say that if she gets it, I'm throwing in the towel. She was sooo unhappy and obviously in pain/gassy/colicky/crabby the whole time we were at the cottage. Rob & I were really at our wits' end. It was NOT a relaxing time, and was hard to be in such a lovely place with such an unhappy baby.

After a visit to the pediatrican and lactation consultant, things are a bit better. Turns out the wee piglet was eating too much and might have acid reflux, so she's on a baby antacid. She's been MUCH better, and we're hoping that she's getting over whatever digestion issues were causing the colic, the poor mite.

Anyhoo, here are a few pics... more to follow:

Here is Evy's 2-month portrait, which you can compare below to a picture of her at 1 month. She sure has grown! She's now weighing 9lb, which is pretty impressive!
